Waiting for Fall Lettuce to Grow

Ruby Lettuce

Red Romaine Lettuce

Little Gem Lettuce

Here we have lots of little volunteer lettuce seedlings (among some others) coming up from seeds that fell off the seed heads when I saved lettuce seeds, or they just self-seeded themselves.  They are mostly loose-leaf blend and mesclun lettuce mix.

Red colour lettuces will brighten up your patch. It is like an autumn theme.

I agree! I think I might plant red leafed lettuce just to get some color in the garden ;)

Your lettuce is looking good! I have hardly any out there. I neglected the garden a bit when it was so dry.

Malay-Kadazan girl - I couldn't think of many fall vegetables in non-green colors, so I had to get some red-colored lettuce! I didn't think about the autumn theme, but yes, I like it!

Nartaya - yes, you should, and you still have plenty of time to grow lettuce in your area. Heck, you could probably grow lettuce all winter long over there.

Robin - thank you! It was really hard to do much with the garden when it was so hot and dry, but I'm hoping for a break, finally, this fall.

Wow, your lettuces are very pretty and healthy looking.

Linda - thank you! I've lost a few to mystery pests, but the remaining ones seem to be doing okay. I hope they grow more quickly before the first frost, so we can enjoy some full-sized lettuce this fall.

I think I've pretty much given up on trying to grow lettuce in the garden. It keeps getting eaten up!! I'm going to try to grow them in pots next year.

meemsnyc - we've lost some lettuce to pests, too. I'm sure lettuce in pots would work well, too. We've had mixed results depending on what kind of container/pots we use.
